Sophisticated, intimate and entirely original, the bar at Kyoto Yura Hotel Nijo Jo Bettei MGallery is a celebration of understated Japanese elegance. Behind the blond wood bar rises a backdrop of roughly hewn rock, within which recessed drinks cabinets are concealed (or revealed) by sliding golden screens. This use of screens is inspired by the shoin-zukuri style of Kyoto’s traditional samurai residences, which employ fusuma sliding doors and shōji partitions to create a sense of depth and privacy.
Another Japanese tradition, the ornamental garden, is showcased through floor-length windows at the other end of the bar. These natural vistas are the backdrop for Singular’s endlessly inventive craft cocktails. If you try only one, it should be the Allégresse. Meaning “joy” in French, it is also a subtle reference to the last Tokugawa shogun, Yoshinobu, whose name contains the Japanese kanji for “happiness”. The ingredients reflect this blend of cultures, featuring cherry blossom liqueur and kinako powder alongside sparkling wine and the luxury French vodka CÎROC.
Premium wines, beers and spirits are also on the beverage menu, including distinctly Kyoto brands like KI NO BI dry gin and Hibiki blended whisky.
